Chamber Hires Economic Development Project Manager
(Shelby,
NC) – The Cleveland County Chamber is pleased to
announce that Misti Humphries, Vice President of
Membership Services, has accepted the position of
Economic Development Project Manager for the
Cleveland County Chamber’s Economic Development
Department.
In
January, Chamber officials announced that they would
begin the search for a project manager to assist
with economic development prospects and to assist in
the implementation of a county wide economic
development strategy.
“After a
lengthy search, it is ironic that the person who
best qualifies for the position is the one who is
right under your nose,” said Scott Darnell, Senior
VP of Economic Development. “Misti brings many
positive attributes to the position and we firmly
believe that this transition will help the Chamber
in our commitment to improving the local economy,
growing markets, and providing a roadmap for
economic prosperity.”
Chamber
President Stuart Gilbert agrees. “Misti has done a
phenomenal job as vice president of membership
services and we anticipate nothing less as she
begins working in the economic development
department,” said Gilbert. “We will be searching
for her replacement immediately and plan to have the
job description for the vice president of membership
services position posted with the Employment
Security Commission within 24 hours.” Gilbert said
that Humphries will transition into her new position
once her replacement is named.
“I am
honored and excited to begin my new relationship
with economic development,” said Humphries. “It has
been such a pleasure to work with businesses in the
area over the past two years, and I’m thrilled to be
able to serve as a resource for incoming and
existing industries.”
A
Cleveland County native, Humphries graduated from
Shelby High School in 1990 and attended North
Carolina State University. She received a Bachelor
of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Following graduation from NCSU, Humphries returned
to Cleveland County where she began working at
Hoechst-Celanese, which later became KoSa. She
gained experience in a variety of positions at the
plant, including environmental engineer, safety
engineer, process engineer, and senior quality
engineer.
Chamber
Chairman David Faunce believes that Humphries’ roots
in Cleveland County and her background in industry
will serve her well in her new role. “The Chamber
is fortunate to have someone of Misti’s caliber in
this new position,” said Faunce. “Her passion for
her community and her personable nature will greatly
enhance the current economic development program.”
She is a
graduate of the Chamber's Leadership Cleveland
County program (Class of 2001), and she served as
volunteer chairperson of the leadership program for
the Class of 2002. She began working at the
Chamber in 2002 as the organization’s Vice President
of Membership Services.
