Text Box: 25 years.  My how things have changed.  Coming back to a community one served many years ago gives rise to many thoughts and emotions.  How many people will I recognize?  How has the community progressed – or have they?  What’s the political situation?  Who are the movers and shakers?  Has the complexion of the community changed?  What challenges face the community?

25 years.  My how things have remained the same.  Leaders are still committed to seeing the community grow and prosper.   Volunteers are still giving of their time and talents to projects that will improve the quality of life for the citizens.  Chamber leaders are supportive and committed to providing services to the members and programs that will make a difference in the future of this community.  The more things change the more they remain the same.

I am excited about the possibilities that abound in Cleveland County.  I am pleased to find a tremendous spirit of cooperation throughout the community.   I am amazed at the progress made in the past 25 years and my heart is warmed by meeting many of the old friends I left behind 25 years ago, many who are still actively engaged in chamber and community projects.

During my previous service to the community, I had the opportunity of visiting with a Chamber President (Chairman of the Board) who had an illustration pinned to his office wall.  The illustration showed a man getting ready to light a fuse on a rocket that was aimed at the moon.  But between the rocket and the moon was a mountain.  The cut line beneath the illustration said, “You can’t hit the top to the mountain if you don’t aim for the moon.” I’ve never forgotten that illustration - thanks Bobby Rogers.

I am glad to be back and I am looking forward to working with all who desire to see Cleveland County hit the top of the mountain.
