Text Box: 170 local business leaders enjoyed an evening of reflection and fun at the 2008 Annual Banquet of the Cleveland County Chamber on January 29, 2009 at Cleveland Country Club in Shelby.  This evening was possible thanks to our presenting sponsor: First National Bank, Award Sponsors: Fox Distributing Company and Duke Energy and Gold Sponsors: Shelby Savings Bank, Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Comedian Charles Marshall entertained the crowd with his jokes about marriage, money, and dating.  Some attendees got involved first hand as he chose them randomly out of the crowd to joke with.

The banquet brought a ceremonial end to a successful and productive year, and included the traditional "passing of the gavel" by 2008 Chairman Steve Padgett (Gateway Properties) to 2009 Chairman Mark Hudson (HTMH Consulting).

Each year at the banquet, several community members are recognized with special awards.  This year, the Athena Award (presented to an outstanding businesswoman) was given to "The Farmers Wife," Kathyrn Hamrick.

A new set of awards were giving this year to recognize the area's fastest and strongest growing small businesses for their exceptional achievements in the area of business development.  These 10 companies were selected for their contributions to the region's economy and for how they have positioned themselves toward continued success.  From the 10 selected one will be honored with The Carson L. Fox Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  This year’s Emerging 10 are: Hendrick Appliance, owners Robin, Eric, and Kelly Hendrick, Wellington Hamrick, owner Kitty Hoyle, Personnel Services Unlimited, owner and president Tim Blackwell, Safety Test & Equipment, owner Drew Beam, Machine Builders & Design, owner Darryl Mims, Travel Lynx, owner Mark Bumgardner, Red Bone Willy's, owner Glenda Miller, Carolina Trophies, owner Marc Dedmon, J&E Sales, owner Bob Still, and Bellus Tu Spa, owner Laurie Mancuso.
